Protection programming in Uganda
Awareness raising and survivor support
To better understand risks, drivers, and barriers to protection, we conducted a desk review of academic and grey literature alongside action-oriented research with communities and stakeholders.
Our research identified election periods as times of heightened risk for children, with increased incidence of ritual harm linked to political uncertainty and social instability.
In response, we worked closely with local and national partners, including UCRNN, to implement targeted prevention and response initiatives during election periods.
Multi-media awareness campaigns
We delivered coordinated television and multimedia campaigns to:
- Raise awareness of child sacrifice risks
- Reduce stigma associated with reporting
- Promote child rights and protection
- Signpost reporting and referral pathways
Rapid response survivor support
We established a rapid response fund to support survivors of ritual harm, enabling timely access to protection, care, and referral services during periods of heightened risk.
